Fuerteventura
A Golfing Paradise
|
|
|
|
|
Fuerteventura,
the Old Canary Country, is the island with the longest coastline,
with wide plains and gentle valleys, with huge beaches: it
is a geographical no man's land, a place for those who wish
to escape from the pressures of today's life. In addition,
there are possibilities of fishing in unbelievably transparent
waters, as a special attraction for a growing number of tourists
who refuse to spend their holidays without any activity. In
fact the island is separated from Africa by a corridor where
sardines, tuna and sword fish are the objects of mortal persecution.
The fishing sportsman can easily get his share.
Fuerteventura
is like a sand dune set in the Atlantic Ocean long sandy beaches
dotted with craters like a moonscape just 200 Kms from Africa
there is a strong Moorish influence.

The first golf on
the island at Caleta de Fuste is an 18 hole, par 71 round extending
6124 metres, there's a gentle slop from the Clubhouse Hotel towards
the sea, the area surrounding the 17th & 18th holes is the steepest.
The beautiful setting
and simplicity of the course is excellent. It's challenge comes from
the wind factor and from the lakes, streams and channels that can have
an impact on the game.
The prevailing winds
come from the north and at it's strongest can turn the course into quite
a challenge.Designed
by the renown architect Juan Catarimeau. Who saw how important the wind
would be on the landscape and for this reason there are extensive greens
on average more than 614 sq. mt and the fairways as much as 50 metres
wide.
The course is well
planted but there are no trees on the fairways.
There is an attempt
to create a balance between the difficulty of some holes with the easier
ones.
