Corralejo,
once a small fishing community that has grown into the islands
main resort.
A favourite
with professional wind surfers and holiday makers alike it has
almost 10 KM of beach which in places is over 3 Km wide, the sea
is sparkling and crystal clear.
The resort
is surrounded by the famous desert like sand dunes so indicative
of Fuerteventura.
There are
plenty of shops and supermarkets and a wide selection of bars
and restaurants.
Not a good
choice for families with young children sea bathing is not recommended,
dangerous currents and strong winds.
Never leave
children unattended near the water.
WATCH THE
BEACH FLAGS
Red.
Do not swim strong currents.
Yellow.
Strong winds and rough seas.
Green.
Safe to swim.
The undulating
hills and valleys of the interior are dotted with small villages.
Some of the villages like Lakares are well worth a visit, here
the traditional way of life continues hardly changed for centuries.
The quiet
town of Betancuria was once the capital, and the tranquil village
of Pajara and Los Lobos Island are all worth including.
A good way
to see the island is by hire
car which is cheap and easy to arrange.
